Life can be full of surprises and this is definitely one of them.

Yesterday I made a lovely red dye from a bowl of rose petals
from my garden.

The roses were red, the petals were red, the dye looked red,
and this definitely isn't red or even pink, but
the most beautiful shade of apricot.

I know used vinegar as my mordant so I wonder what will
happen if I use alum next time.

Watch this space....!

Rose Dye

The roses have been fabulous this year. Our Dublin Bay has been dripping with large red blooms. So I decided to collect the petals and make some dye.
I have recently acquired a beautiful soft  Leicester/Suffolk
lambs fleece. I have washed it and and plan to dye some of it with my rose dye. I am hoping to get some soft pink wool.
Fingers crossed!
